Square abrasive pads are an aggressive product used for weld removal applications on inside corner where resin fiber discs and flap discs cannot reach. Like cartridge rolls, the cotton backing cloth of the abrasive is designed to break down during use revealing the next layer of abrasive. Because the product breaks down, abrasive pads are rarely manufactured with technical grains such as zirconia or ceramic. This is because the breakdown occurs before the grain dulls, thus the self sharpening characteristics of the technical grains never becomes advantage.
Cross abrasive pads are less aggressive than square pads and are generally used for deburring, flash removal and metal surface finishing tasks. They are less aggressive because they are more flexible. The added flexibility makes them ideally suited to deburring tube and any other internal diameters.
